Fr. Christopher Begg
Fr. Christopher Begg has served as weekend assistant at St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill since 1982, and has taught our weekly bible study each Tuesday evening during the academic year. Father Chris was ordained as a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington on May 14, 1977, he earned his Ph.D. in 1979 and his S.T.D. in 1980 from the University of Louvain (Belgium) and is the Associate Dean for Ministerial and Seminary Students, an Ordinary Professor of Biblical Studies and the Katharine Drexel Chair in Religious Studies at the Catholic University of America. In 1988, Fr. Begg received a Papal appointment as a member of the International Theological Commission.
Fr. Begg is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and of the Society of Biblical Literature; he is publishing editor of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly, editor of Old Testament Abstracts, and Deuteronomistic History Coordinator of Religious Studies Review. In 1993, the Leuven University Press published Fr. Begg’s Josephus’ Account of the Early Divided Monarchy. He is also the author of 15 articles in scholarly encyclopedia and dictionaries, along with 120 articles in scholarly journals.
